Help and General Information
Nothing can spoil a holiday more than feeling off-colour or not being prepared, and nothing can dull the pleasure of your holiday memories more than getting ill far from home. It is of utmost importance that you take out travel insurance which covers you for illness, accidents and theft, as we will need copies of these documents on your arrival. There are a number of health issues that you should be aware of, particularly if you're from the northern hemisphere:
- Learn something about the country you are going to visit - and ask your guides as many questions as you like - we will never think a question is “silly”!
- Learn some of the local language - mainly Afrikaans & Sesotho. Don't be afraid to use it - it's amazing how simple pleasantries help to break the ice. We will teach you the basics - Hello, Please, Thank You, and so on! Again - don't be afraid to ask!
- Carry a small back pack - useful for sunscreen, insect repellent, lip ice, etc.
- Always ask first before photographing or videoing people. Offer to send them a copy of the photo or video - help make it a two-way exchange, again, our guides will help you with this.
- All involved in the tourism industry are trying to discourage visitors giving “gifts” such as money, pens or sweets to the local people, as it tends to promote a “begging culture”. If you wish to donate we are able to suggest some local projects that are constantly seeking support or you may wish to donate via an aid agency. Some local villages can be supported by buying their craft work etc.
- Please don't litter our beautiful land! Leave only your footprints behind! Use alternatives to plastic and say 'No' to plastic bags. For cigarette butts, an empty film container makes a perfect portable ashtray!
- Smile all the time, think how lucky you are to be able to travel to beautiful parts of the world! Attitude plays a big role in the enjoyment of one's trip, it is so much easier to form a bond with happy, calm, cheerful people! We'll be with you all the way and we'd like to fill your vacation with fond memories, great sights and loads of information - we'd also like to add a good measure of laughs while we are at it so……. have fun!
