Volunteer Programme

Want to experience life in South Africa? Do you enjoy meeting new people from all walks of life? If you have a bubbly personality and enjoy people, and want to do something different then our program is ideal for you!

How does the programme work?

You volunteer 40 hours per week at one of our hospitality based pubs, lodges or restaurants, and in return for your 40 hours per week you get full accommodation & meals. Our programs run for a minimum of three months and a maximum of 6 months. No Working visa required! All you are required to do is to buy your own air ticket! All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older!

How do you apply or find out more?

Send an updated CV, which should also mention any previous experience you’ve had. Send a recent head and shoulder photo and one full length photo of yourself either by e-mail or fax – if we think you’re a “people person” and will fit in with the team, we’ll be in touch to have a chat to you and answer any questions you may have. Please note that placements are limited. A drivers license is a must!!!! Public transport is not an option in South Africa!

What can I expect?

You will be collected from the airport by one of our team, preferably Nelspruit airport. Your return airline ticket is for your own expense. We take you to your comfortable accommodation where you have everything you need : beds, bedding, towels, bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, cutlery and crockery as well as pots and pans, lounge and dining room. TV, DVD player, DSTV (our version of cable or satellite TV). The garden is kept well groomed by a garden service so that you can enjoy a braai (BBQ) and the South African sun when you are not volunteering. We also have a cleaning service every day, they clean the house, do your washing and your ironing. The house also has an alarm system with armed response.

As the programs are all in the hospitality industry, you will be required to work irregular hours, there are no 9-5 positions! Your “off” time is yours to do what you like with and no one is required to volunteer on Sundays!

All positions are “front line” – directly involved with customers and the public. We do not place anyone “back of house” nor do we expect anyone to work in the kitchen or in an office!

What do we expect from you?

All we expect from you is an excellent standard of customer service and customer relations, ensuring that our customers will come back again and again. South Africans are very friendly and easy to get along with. They love to chat whilst they sit in the bar area or when you take drinks to their table. They are interested in people from other countries and will spend many hours asking you about your country, it’s people, cultures and industries. South Africans also tip very well! All tips you earn are yours to keep and spend as you please!! You will find that many of them will volunteer to take you to places of interest and there are many youngsters who love to make friends with our volunteers, sometimes they even go and visit our volunteers when they have gone home to their own countries! We also expect you to have fun and enjoy your time with us – happy people are our specialty! We’ve had volunteers from Brazil, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria – to mention a few countries. You must be able to speak and understand English.

Why use volunteers?

It is very simple; there are huge benefits to all concerned. The volunteer gets to meet loads of new people, very often making very good friends in the process. They also get to see a different country, learn about it’s cultures and economy. South Africa is a beautiful country, and we are based in the heart of the Lowveld, with the world famous Kruger National park just 15km away from the residence! As you only have to volunteer 40 hours per week, and the fact that most of these hours will be afternoon or night shifts, you have lots of time and opportunity to see many beautiful places and partake in exciting activities. Our customers get to meet interesting people from overseas, which they find very refreshing in the hospitality industry. We benefit from the fact that our customers are helped by intelligent, interesting and diverse people.
